A talk with my memory

We move from phase to phase
because our hearts have to keep up with the race
the race of the wicked
the one that gets us sickened
sickened of our choices, of our past
but those thoughts will last
they will last a lifetime and beyond
there is no meaning in throwing our bond
our bond with the past

cast us on the streets
let us stroll
let us dig ourselves a hole of mistakes
but don't give us a hand when we're down

You can blame me for everything, my father once said
but will that be enough to tuck yourself into bed?
We had our laughs and our cries
should we ever say our goodbyes?
you paid your dues, and I did mine
but that doesn't mean we'll ever be fine
so when are we going to get it
get it in our heads that we all are looking to shine.
